The parliamentary leader of Québec solidaire, Alexandre Leduc, apologized after launching a “fuck you» well felt by his CAQ counterpart, Simon Jolin-Barrette.
“When leaving the Blue Room today, I made unacceptable comments towards Simon Jolin-Barrette. My words went beyond my thoughts and I sincerely apologize. He is a colleague that I appreciate and I will manage my emotions better in the future. My apologies also to the president,” declared Mr. Leduc, on X.
The government parliamentary leader had just spoken to journalists to demand an apology from Mr. Leduc.
“Mr. Leduc disagreed with the interventions I made as government leader. […] Mr. Leduc, when he left his seat as a deputy, told me: “Fuck you Simon, fuck you Simon”,” Mr. Jolin-Barrette told the parliamentary press.
“I find it a little incredible that in my role as leader of the government, I am insulted by Alexandre Leduc, the leader of the second opposition role,” continued the member for Borduas. […] We teach our children, in our schools, not to insult each other, to respect each other, not to intimidate each other.”
The words of the parliamentary leader of Québec solidaire were made off-microphone, but at least thirty deputies were able to clearly hear them, according to Mr. Jolin-Barrette.
Unacceptable
“Everyone here understood what the member for Hochelaga-Maisonneuve said. This is completely unacceptable, these are radical remarks, disrespectful for the functions we exercise,” the parliamentary leader of the CAQ at the presidency of the National Assembly was quick to point out a little earlier. , at the Blue Room.
“In French, it means “fuck you Simon”. I will not accept between parliamentarians, on the floor of the National Assembly […]to be insulted by Québec solidaire,” Mr. Jolin-Barrette was indignant.
Does this incident call into question Mr. Leduc’s role as parliamentary leader of the second opposition group? “Well, I think he must be asking himself questions,” Mr. Jolin-Barrette replied to journalists.
“In almost ten years in the National Assembly, this is the first time I have seen this. […] Insulting a colleague like that,” he observed.
A few minutes later, Mr. Leduc indicated that he had just spoken with his CAQ counterpart, and that the latter would have immediately accepted his apologies.
“Mr. Leduc called me to apologize. I accepted his apologies, we are moving on, confirmed Mr. Jolin-Barrette in the afternoon. The event is closed. […] I’m not resentful. As they say, a fault confessed half forgiven.”
