The President of the Republic was greeted with whistles and calls to resign on Wednesday afternoon, as he began a series of trips to reconnect with the French.
A very excited welcoming committee. The President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron was booed on Wednesday April 19 in the streets of Sélestat (Bas-Rhin), during his first walkabout since the promulgation of the disputed pension reform. Whistles and invitations to resign were launched by a compact crowd gathered in front of the town hall of the city.
“We are here, we are here!”chanted protesters in the crowd. “You have a corrupt government”launched a man in particular. “You harbor ideas that are not right”, replied the president, who took part in an exercise in explaining his plan for pensions in the face of trade unionists who came to ask him to withdraw his reform. Earlier in the day, Emmanuel Macron had visited a factory in Muttersholtz (Bas-Rhin). During this meeting, the site’s electricity was cut off by unidentified actors.
