Dominique and her dog Loulou live in a car. It has now been more than a year since she took urgent steps to get housing. Brut went to meet him.
“This is my home.” For Dominique, his “my house“, it’s his car. Aged 61, she no longer has a home, and is forced to live with her dog, Loulou, in her vehicle. “I lost my husband in December 2020. When my husband passed away, I could no longer stay in the house. He died in the kitchen, and it brought back too many bad memories. And so, the little savings I had with the sale of the house, well, they are gone. They melted like snow in the sun”, explains the sexagenarian.
Dominique has placed his whole life between these four wheels. “I have my food since we only eat sandwiches, I can’t eat anything else since I don’t have a stove, I don’t have anything to heat up to eat.“On the back seat, there are also kibbles for his dog, and his clothes. But for sleeping, this situation is even more uncomfortable. “I sleep sitting up because I can’t lower my seat because of the bags behind”, she explains.
She does not wish to sleep with her children, having a particularly complicated family situation. “Me, I’m waiting for a roof. A roof to stabilize me and to try to find a small job while waiting to receive my retirement. I’m angry, I’m tired, I’m tired of being taken for granted. There are so many empty slots! But no, there are no accommodations”, she breathes.
