What is a good comedy? We asked the question to Catherine Deneuve, who plays an unexpected Bernadette Chirac in Léa Domenach’s latest comedy.
For Catherine Deneuve, write a comedy well, “this is the most difficult thing”. She, who plays Bernadette Chirac in Léa Domenach’s new film, believes that the right recipe is based on “the incongruity of the situation or the dialogues”. And unlike a dramatic scene, where “it’s harder to know”comedy leaves less room for doubt from the stage: “You know pretty quickly when things aren’t really working well. It’s very obvious.”
“I would really like to do a comedy again”
If she recognizes that she is not necessarily associated with comedy, “because it is not the basis of the films (that she has) made which are known”the genre seduces her and nothing prevents us from imagining seeing her again in this style in the future: “I would really like to do a comedy again.” The atmosphere of “joy” on the set has a lot to do with it: “We are in a situation which is much more cheerful, which is more cheerful, much livelier.” And the film that made him laugh recently? “Yannick”, by Quentin Dupieux: “What a pleasure !”
“Bernadette”, by Léa Domenach, has been in theaters since Wednesday October 4.
