Agnès Pannier-Runacher defends on franceinfo Tuesday the nomination of the mayor of Angers, close to Edouard Philippe, to the post of Minister for Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion.

“We will have to judge Christophe Béchu on the facts, on the actions, and not finally make a judgment with a cookie cutter” said Tuesday, July 5 on franceinfo Agnès Pannier-Runacher, Minister of Energy Transition. “He may know much more in depth about ecological issues than Sandrine Rousseau”she tackled.

Christophe Béchu took over from Amélie de Montchalin as head of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion after her failure in the legislative elections. The appointment of the mayor of Angers, close to Edouard Philippe, has been criticized by environmentalists, in particular Sandrine Rousseau: “Never met Christophe Béchu on the slightest environmental struggle”she tweeted.

“We will have to judge Christophe Béchu on the facts, on the actions, and not finally make a judgment with the cookie cutter which shows the limit of the reflection of the Nupes and its difficulty in entering into a logic of constructive assembly”replied Agnès Pannier-Runacher.

The Minister of Energy Transition highlights the qualities of elected “field” of Christophe Béchu. “He does ecology every day. He may know ecological issues much more in depth than Sandrine Rousseau because he has been working with residents who have quality of life, quality of air, in relation to global warming”he explained.

“In the criticism of Sandrine Rousseau, basically, we hear a kind of monopoly, continues the minister. Ecology would be the monopoly of militant activists. This is not the situation. As for health, as for school, as for the question of full employment, we are all, you and me, concerned by the question of ecology. We all have a legitimacy to take a position on this subject.
