A little more than five years after his spectacular helicopter escape from Réau prison, in Seine-et-Marne, the trial of Rédoine Faïd and his accomplices opened on September 5, 2023. For the first time in twenty years , a member of his family decided to speak on camera.
It is a highly anticipated trial which opened on Tuesday September 5, 2023, a little more than five years after a spectacular escape. Indeed, on July 1, 2018, a helicopter landed in Réau prison, in Seine-et-Marne. A commando cuts the doors leading to the visiting room with a grinder and frees Rédoine Faïd, all in 7 minutes and 33 seconds.
Alongside Rédoine Faïd, around ten men appear, including two of his brothers and three of his nephews. The verdict is expected on Wednesday October 25, 2023. During this trial, the teams from “1:15 p.m. on Saturday” (X, #1:15 p.m.) went to collect testimonies from people whose daily lives have been disrupted by this affair. This is the case of Leila, the big sister of Rédoine Faïd.
“Rédoine, if he had come to knock on my door, I would have opened it for him”
In twenty years, no member of Rédoine Faïd’s family had spoken in front of a camera. After this long silence, Leïla Faïd decided to confide at “1:15 p.m. on Saturday”. “There are many people in my family who are in this trial, six people. We have to organize the visiting rooms, communicate with the lawyers, bring them a little life through our telephone exchanges“, confides Rédoine Faïd’s big sister.
About her little brother’s childhood, Leïla depicts a healthy environment. “I had very loving parents, very present“, she shares, before saying more about little Rédoine’s personality. “He was a very happy child, he couldn’t sit still. He was mischievous, he loved playing pranks, he loved cinema. People often paid for tickets so that he could go there. He had fun making movie lines for us“.
Leïla Faïd now also has her big brother in prison, Rachid, who responded to Rédoine’s call for help, like other members of this family. “What bothers me about this act is that he cuts himself off from his wife, his children“, she regrets. Could she have done the same? “Rédoine, if he had come to knock on my door, I would have opened it for him“, concludes the sister of Rédoine and Rachid Faïd.
