On the occasion of National Carers’ Day on October 6, France 5 broadcasts a special evening presented by Théo Curin with Clémentine Célarié and Bruno Solo.
A new and demanding role. On the occasion of the broadcast of the show “Caregivers, it’s time to help them”Tuesday October 8 on France 5, the actor Bruno Solo accompanied Thierry, a man suffering from Charcot’s disease, for 48 hours.
Between 8 and 11 million people support sick, disabled or losing loved ones in France, according to figures from the Ministry of Solidarity and Autonomy. L’emission, presented by host and former disabled swimmer Théo Curin, intends to put them in the spotlight.
Actress Clémentine Célarié also took on the role of caregiver for 48 hours, thus experiencing the reality of the commitment of those who dedicate their lives to others. The program also reveals the lack of recognition and visibility of these family caregivers, often alone in this ordeal.
Aged 45, Thierry is the father of three children. Four years ago, this aeronautics mechanic was diagnosed with Charcot disease. This neurodegenerative disease causes progressive paralysis of the entire body. This announcement disrupts the life of his family and more particularly that of his wife Loriane, forced to juggle between her caregiver responsibilities and professional obligations.
Thanks to this show, for two days, Théo Curin takes Loriane away from her care routine by offering her a getaway while Bruno Solo takes his place with Thierry and accompanies him in his daily life.
Accompanying the other person to the toilet, helping them brush their teeth, help them eat… So many tasks that the actor takes on, who understands all the difficulties. A banal situation like that of placing Thierry in his wheelchair quickly becomes a challenge for the actor, forced to ask for help from members of the film crew.
Thierry’s partner, however, carries out this type of task alone, several times a day. “Every second, I thought of you and I said to myself ‘that’s his daily life'”.the actor tells Loriane, moved. “Me, I only did that, I was an almost professional caregiver. Whereas you, you are a caregiver and then you go to work with your students, and then in the evening, you chat with your kids (…) All this load physical, mental and psychological that you do with a smile… I said to myself: ‘I have no right to be below [ce dont tu es capable].'”
The show“Caregivers, it’s time to help them”, presented by Théo Curin, is broadcast at 9:05 p.m. Tuesday October 8 on France 5 and is visible on the France.tv platform.
