This association organized an e-sport tournament for seniors during the Japan Expo. With this initiative, she aims to limit the feeling of loneliness among the elderly and break the monotony of their daily lives.
“It allows me at the same time to get out of my comfort bubble, to play with people, people who are more or less talented than me, that’s for sure.” With the Silver Geek association, several elderly people were able to participate in the Japan Expo which took place from July 14 to 17 in Paris. Taking part in a video game competition is an opportunity for these seniors to discover a new activity and overcome their loneliness.
On the occasion of Japan Expo, the e-sport tournament organized by the Silver Geek association delighted the participants. After several training sessions, it is now the big day for Évelyne, Christiane, Catherine and Éliane, who represent Val-d’Oise for the competition. “I played video games for the first time 3 months ago, and since then we’ve done a few training sessions, 5 in total, in a group and a bit alone at home, that’s it. And then, we improved a bit”, explains a participant. Chocobo, host and presenter of the tournament, talks about the benefits that video games can have on the elderly. “These are people who often, unfortunately, are a bit lonely. Their day is a bit redundant. There are only things they don’t understand because it’s not their generation. And yet, they give their all, they train, and there, they live an exceptional moment, and they leave with a smile.
