Daniel has always been passionate about sports and in particular high jump. And today, he is preparing for the 2022 European High Jump Championships for the over 80s category. He has been training up to four times a week for the past twenty years. “I am 5 centimeters from the French record for over 80s“, Daniel smiles. The octogenarian has been jumping high for 68 years.”I went to school, with the gym teacher who noticed that I had a little unusual relaxation“, he says.
Daniel is a three-time world champion in jumping in his age categories, at 56, 62 and 76. He held the European record for over 60s in 2000 with a jump of 1m61. “I jump to do the best I can, but I’m not a fan of competition. Win at all costs, beat the other, defeat the other, not at all. The other, at the limit, it’s almost a partner if you want, it’s not an enemy“, he believes.
