These content creators are using social media to debunk myths about albinism. This rare and often misunderstood genetic disease causes in particular an abnormal production of melanin as well as visual impairments.

“In the media, the red-eyed characters are always the bad guys. This is normal for fictional worlds, but not in real life” explains Kayla, a creator on TikTok.

Every day, these people with albinism expose their daily lives and try to change the perception that others have of their disease.

“Albinism is a genetic disease. To have it, both of your parents must be carriers of the gene.says Kenzi, another designer on the social network.

“There are 7 different types of albinism. I have the one that stands out the most. Albinism is a lack of pigmentation. I have the one with a complete lack of pigmentation, i.e. color, in the skin, hair and eyes” Kenzi adds.
