All people on board were able to be evacuated, notably by an emergency slide. Nine of them were bothered by the fumes or injured during the evacuation procedure.

The fire broke out at the end of the trip. An Air China plane made an emergency landing in Singapore, its final destination, on Sunday September 10, after a fire broke out on the left engine of the plane. Nine of the 155 people on board suffered minor injuries from the fumes or coming down an emergency slide, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore.
Singapore Airport reported that “smoke was detected in the forward cargo hold and in the toilets” aboard flight CA403, departing from the Chinese city of Chengdu. Images posted on social networks show the cabin invaded by thick white smoke. “All passengers, as well as crew members, were evacuated safe and sound”depending on the airport.
The runway was temporarily closed and a plane was diverted to the neighboring island of Batam, Indonesia. An investigation has been opened into the incident. Questioned by AFP, Air China did not immediately respond.
