France 5 is offering a special evening of “C dans l’air” dedicated to the wars of the future as well as the means of defense available to the French army.
On February 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine. A high-intensity war is taking place on the European continent. Disbelief and astonishment overwhelm the world. A shock that shakes up neighboring powers, forced to urgently rethink their military strategy and modernize their army, particularly in the face of these cyberwars which are now also taking place on digital terrain. The show “C dans l’air”, on France 5, presented by Caroline Roux, devotes a special evening to the conflicts of the future with the broadcast of the documentary War tomorrow: is France ready?.
Faced with the emergence of increasingly sophisticated weapons and increasingly complex technologies, the program takes stock of the resources available to the French army, which has been the victim of budgetary restrictions for years. She also questions her ability to anticipate, in order to be ready to fight on the new battlefields that are emerging. According to experts and soldiers interviewed in the documentary, the wars of the future could take place in space and especially underwater.
Very strategic seabed
As the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict proved, the seabed has already become strategic points. “You have to imagine that the majority, 99%, of internet traffic passes through cables, and that these cables are partly underwater”says editorialist Jean-Dominique Merchet, specialist in defense issues, in the documentary.

A new weapon has therefore emerged: maritime drones. Frequently used in the air, these remotely piloted devices are now necessary to reach areas inaccessible to submarines. They are already used extensively by the Ukrainian army against Russian ships in the Crimean Sea.
