This vigil took place on Saturday around 6:30 p.m., the time when the Flame of Remembrance at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier was lit for the first time, on November 11, 1923.

An unprecedented November 11th. For the first time, a vigil “patriotic and popular” was organized on Saturday, November 11, with the projection of a “sound and light” on the Arc de Triomphe, in the presence of the standard bearers, on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the Armistice signed in 1918.

This vigil took place around 6:30 p.m., the time at which the Flame of remembrance at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier was lit for the first time on November 11, 1923, precisely 100 years ago. It lasted almost 45 minutes and was open to everyone.

Besides this pprojection of “sound and light”, President Emmanuel Macron also chaired, in the morning, the official ceremony on Place Charles de Gaulle and under the Arc de Triomphe. The opportunity to lay a wreath on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, to rekindle the Flame and to greet veterans and families of soldiers who died for France and to speak for a few minutes.

In the afternoon, the Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, also laid a wreath in tribute to Captain Alfred Dreyfus at the Ecole Militaire in Paris. This gesture comes on the eve of a march against anti-Semitism in the capital, at the call of the President of the National Assembly and the President of the Senate.
