Scams, promotions of products deemed dangerous, influencer fraud are more and more numerous. To fight against these scams, a discussion was initiated by the Economic Affairs Committee.

In the world of influencers, examples of scams have appeared in recent months. Among them: Maeva Ghennam who would promote products from sites without general conditions of sale, Milla Jasmine who would praise the illegal practice of medicine. So many actions that can have an impact on the public who follow these influencers daily.

“They are ugly influencers”

If the deputies met in committee, it is “to prevent new people from falling victim to fraudulent financial investments, dangerous teeth whitening products or professional training account scams” which are often made by influencers from reality TV, explains Violette Spillebout, MP for the Renaissance party. Because for brands and advertisers, these people followed by a very strong community are ideal customers to promote their products. The victims are “vulnerable, naive at times and trust their idols”.

For Béatrice Descamps, MP for group Libertés, Indépendants, Outre-mer et Territoires (LIOT), influencers do not all have the same profile: “The blogger Julie Bourges who learns to live with a body from severe burns has nothing to do with the couple Nadé and Marc Blata (accused of fraud) for example”. For the MP“these are ugly influencers”.

“You have to hit where it hurts”

Arthur Delporte, socialist deputy denounces all these scams. For him, these posts, investments, subscriptions to “bogus formations must be banned from commercial influence”. Faced with these situations, Christine Engrand, RN deputy, assures that “However, concrete solutions exist, but you have to hit where it hurts, by tarnishing the reputation of fraudsters and limiting the audience for their advertising”. This text must still be discussed in public session at the National Assembly.
