JS Cherbourg won the Normandy Proligue derby on Sunday 13 February 29-24 against Caen Handball. The Vikings managed to come back to the score a few seconds before halftime (15-15) but the Cherbourgeois made their experience speak in the second half, in a very well stocked sports hall.
A deserved success recognizes Caen captain Jordan Allais: “They were more consistent throughout the match, we had a great event with a full sports hall, Cherbourg which always travels with supporters, it’s always noisy and it’s always a pleasure. We would have liked to win this match there. But now, we are back three points behind them, nothing catastrophic.”
JS Cherbourg coach Frédéric Bougeant had planned this scenario: “The Caennais always find resources to get back into the game. We knew they weren’t going to give in on the first assault. On the other hand, the first assault, I think it is very, very important physically in the confirmation of our own style to put them in difficulty in the second part of the match.”
Next match for Cherbourg on Friday February 18 at home against Massy (8:30 p.m.). At the same time Caen will move to Nice.
