This Friday, February 11 will be held the 37th Victoires de la Musique on France 2. The show broadcast live from the musical Seine in the Paris region will be available for listening on France Inter. During this evening, 19 nominated artists will share the precious rewards… But who are the voters?
For this 2022 edition, our colleagues from Parisian reveal the identity of the panel of voters. They were 900 members made up of 620 professionals and 280 amateurs from the public selected at random from a group of volunteers. The group of professionals is itself divided into three: that of authors, composers, performers, musicians, conductors; that of various personalities, media, managers, distributors; and finally that of record companies, producers, publishers.
A transparency, therefore, which did not prevent the traditional ceremony from suffering some criticism, especially around the number of artists put forward. “Only 19 artists rewarded over the year, while 19 albums are released each week, that’s incredibly few. We have to stop giving them credibility. It’s nothing more than a TV show. It’s an old world, which doesn’t matter to me and my music buddies. That’s just for the record companies.“reacted the rapper Vald nearby Parisianbitter to see rap represented by only 2 artists for the event (Orelsan and CHS).
Another concern, that of the cronyism of the major record companies (Universal, Sony, Warner) who have control over the rewards. “I was told that I had made one of the best records of the year, but that it had no chance of being nominated because I am not supported by a major or a big independent label.” had explained an anonymous singer-songwriter to the Parisian. For our colleagues, Jerome Rogerrepresenting independent labels, sounded the alarm: “Les Victoires is disconnected from what young people listen to and buy. This triggers a frustration which must lead to a total overhaul if we want to continue to bring the Victories to life, to which we are attached.“
The president of the ceremony will be the Belgian singer Stromae, recently back with an album due out this year: an opus entitled Multitudeexpected for March 4.
