A year ago, a violent earthquake shook Turkey and killed more than 53,000 people and left more than 700,000 affected. Even today, many of them still live in tents and makeshift settlements.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited the Antioch region on Saturday February 3, one year after the violent earthquake that struck there. A draw was organized to grant housing to 10,000 affected people who have been living in tents and pre-fabricated facilities since the natural disaster. The region and its inhabitants still bear the traces of the earthquake which left more than 53,000 dead and more than 700,000 affected.

Victims waiting

The State did not explain anything to us (…). They told us they were going to offer us an apartment. When ? How ? We do not know“, deplores a disaster victim. After the earthquake, the president promised to rebuild the city of Antioch in a year. But the population who did not flee now lives in a container camp or in tents.
