Victim of racism during her reign, Flora Coquerel denounces insults “of extreme violence”!

Elected Miss France 2014, Flora Coquerel will forever remember this December evening when she was crowned in front of the whole of France. “That night, 7 years ago, I shared an adventure with 32 other incredible young women. All different, strong in convictions and values. Our path will remain linked for life because that evening we dared. Dared to present ourselves and assert ourselves and we did it in the most beautiful of complicity woven by our differences and our complementarities“, she wrote on her Instagram account a few years after her coronation.

And if the young woman speaks with accuracy of these beautiful “differences”, she nevertheless concedes today that everyone has not necessarily shown the same open-mindedness as those who elected her beauty queen this that evening. “On the other hand, during my year of Miss France, I was the victim of insults because of my skin color. It was extremely violent, but I made sure not to give importance to this minority of malicious people“, she recently entrusted to the magazine Closer.

The former Miss France also admits to having been a victim of this intolerance and this racism since her early childhood. “In kindergarten, I lived in Alsace and I was the only Métis. They called me ‘the black one’. I was too young to understand“, she explains, before tempering: “Then we went to live in Chartres. In my college, there were all nationalities. My friends were Laotian, Moroccan and Portuguese“.

A few weeks ago, Flora Coquerel was even ranting after being confused with Chloé Mortaud, another Miss France with mixed skin. On Facebook, under the article in question, she said: “It might be time to make an effort Magicmaman France don’t you think?”.
