Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was shot and hospitalized after a cabinet meeting in Handlova, central Slovakia, local press reported.
He is between life and death, the government said.
The newspaper Dennik Nwhose reporter saw the head of government taken away in a car by bodyguards, claimed that the alleged shooter had been apprehended by the police.
Deputy Speaker of Parliament Lubos Blaha confirmed the incident during a session of Parliament and adjourned it until further notice, Slovak news agency TASR reported.
The events occurred in front of the local House of Culture, where Mr. Fico had come to meet his supporters. The police cordoned off the scene.
