“It’s all in the voice”! This is the name of the show that Marianne is currently playing at the Théâtre Libre in Paris until December 30. And surprisingly, it is thanks to the nuances of the telephone voice of a pseudo bank adviser that she manages to understand that she is the victim of a scam! Here is what the juror of “France has an incredible talent” says in a story which has the caption: “Here I was cheated! I caught up in time for my big mistake… phew!!! I ran into the most pitiful crook of crooks! Stay alert and watchful! I kiss you all!”
Unfortunately, the story is classic: “I received a text message from social security explaining to me that my Vitale card was soon to expire and that I had to redo it. So I click on the link, I’m not suspicious. I give my name, my age, my address, my bank details for the amount that will allow La Poste to send me this famous Vitale card at home. But this does not end here ! Because shortly after having delivered her coordinates, the singer and actress receives a telephone call from a man, who presented himself as an employee of a credit card opposition organization.
“You’re a beautiful jerk, the shame of crooks!”
The man pretends to worry about large outflows of money from his account and urgently asks him for his bank details in order to oppose his credit card. At first, his interlocutor spoke very decent French, but… his keen ear detected a few variations during the conversation, no doubt an “accent from his country of origin”: “It tipped me off. I realize that I am the biggest gourd the earth has worn and that I am just being ripped off”. Marianne James finally contacts her bank’s emergency number, denounces the attempted scam and opposes her card! But since she couldn’t help herself, she called her crook back at the start of the evening! She no longer finds him the same superb, surely “in socks, Netflix and bowl in the microwave”… and the fire! “You’re a beautiful jerk, the shame of crooks!” Not lacking in confidence, the latter even threatens to file a complaint! The big deal: whoever laughs last will have a good laugh!
