A few days before the commemoration of June 6, 1944, American and British veterans arrived in France. Most of the survivors insisted on making this long journey.
Jack Einstein is a veteran of World War II. He crossed the Atlantic to meet the French. At his side, a tropism expresses its wonder. “It’s an honor to see him here in France”, he explains. The veterans participated in their first ceremony. Supported by their loved ones, they stand up despite the emotion and fatigue. Standing at attention like 80 years ago for David Marshall. He was 19 years old at the time of the Landings. “My heart is overflowing with emotion with all these people. I landed at Omaha Beach after the D-Day landings began, and it was really a very tough battle”he says.
Faced with these war heroes, hundreds of people came to say thank you. Among them, a woman who was five years old when the Americans liberated her village. “I am so happy to see you, because for me you are my heroes”, she assures the veterans. In one photo, she wears a dress made from American parachutes that has traveled around the world. “All these men coming down from the sky, for a child, it was a dream”, she confides. This anniversary is also an opportunity for France to thank all those who are no longer there.
