very tense debate with his comrades!

This Wednesday, March 22, 2023, Emmanuel Macron answered questions from Marie-Sophie Lacarrau and Julian Bugier for an unprecedented television news broadcast simultaneously on TF1 and France 2. The President of the Republic had to justify himself on the future entry into force of the pension reform but also to try to call for calm as the country is set ablaze and the French proclaim their dissatisfaction daily.

The day after his television appearance, Internet users noticed that Emmanuel Macron took off, in the middle of an interview, the watch he was wearing on his wrist. Very quickly, a rumor was born around the price of this watch. The sum of €80,000 was then mentioned and viewers are convinced that he removed this pretty jewel to hide his wealth at a time when he was trying to convince the French that they must consent to the effort in the midst of a financial crisis. …

Faced with the rumour, its communication team hastened to specify that this watch is a “classic” model called Bell and Ross V1-92 Blue Steel and that it costs “only” 2500€.

Matthieu Delormeau defends the President of the Republic

While the case was discussed on the set of “Touche pas à mon poste”, Matthieu Delormeau came out of his hinges to defend Emmanuel Macron. The columnist said he was not shocked by the fact that a head of state could wear a watch costing nearly €100,000, especially when you consider that he had a rewarding career before becoming president: “ A president takes care of representing a country. He must, when he goes outside, have a very nice tailored suit, a nice watch. I would be delighted if my President of the Republic had a very nice watch, perhaps French, at 100,000 euros. It’s deserved, he has a big job!” he chanted.

Not enough to convince his colleagues such as Gilles Verdez who felt that the President of the Republic must show a little compassion for his fellow citizens who are currently living through complicated days and who do not need to see that he displays his richness. “You take the French for fools… so he’s going to drive in a Clio and go on vacation to the Mercure? You are making, in this country, that every rich person is an enemy, stop with that! He’s going to dress in H&M and wearing a Zara watch?” protested Matthieu Delormeau.

Guillaume Genton then tried to make him listen to reason: “Macron is not a rapper, he is not going to come with a €100,000 watch and a gold chain. You cannot come and talk and tell people that you have to tightening their belts and that they’re going to have to work more, with a watch that represents seven or eight years’ salary for some, it’s inconsistent. That he uses it in private very well but in public, have the delicacy not to put on a watch at €100,000”.

“Let him stop living at the Élysée and live at the Mercure opposite like that, it’s better…” replied Matthieu Delormeau, still not convinced by the statements of his colleagues.
