On July 8, 2023, a two-year-old boy named Émile disappeared in the hamlet of Haut-Vernet after escaping the surveillance of his grandparents. As soon as this disappearance was announced, significant resources were deployed to find the little boy with wheat-blonde hair.
Very quickly, the grandfather’s profile attracted the attention of the police. If the man seemed annoyed by the “turbulent” behavior of his missing grandson, his past and his “authoritarian” personality were mentioned several times. It was then a teenager from the village who was questioned by the gendarmes because of his reputation as the local “little boss”. Unfortunately, no leads turned out to be reliable or solid and the investigation seemed to have stagnated for several weeks now.
Disappearance of Émile: a hiker discovers bones
This Friday, March 29, 2024, a reconstruction of the disappearance of little Émile was held in the hamlet of Haut-Vernet. A scenario organized by the police in order to cross-check all the elements and try to detect a new lead to explore. They certainly did not expect that, the next day, there would be a tragic outcome.
This Saturday, March 30, the national gendarmerie was informed of “the discovery of bones” near the hamlet of Vernet,” said Aix-en-Provence prosecutor Jean-Luc Blachon in a short press release. These bones were were sent and then analyzed urgently at the Criminal Research Institute of the National Gendarmerie (Ircgn) in Pontoise and it was confirmed this Sunday, March 31, that these are indeed the remains of little Émile.
At the same time, it was revealed that it was a hiker who discovered the skull of the child, who had been missing since July 8. She would then not have hesitated to take it and drop it off at the nearest police station. An announcement which today shocks Internet users who reacted en masse on the BFMTV X account (formerly Twitter).
