The 26 forest areas of Bouches-du-Rhône will be closed to the public on Sunday August 18, the department’s prefecture announced in a press release sent on Saturday.

In detail, this therefore concerns all the massifs: Alpilles, Arbois, Chambremont, Chaîne des Cötes, Concors, Castillon, Côte Bleue, Gardanne Hills, Calanques, Cap Canaille, Etoile, Grand Caunet, Garlaban, Lançon, Les Roques, Montagnette, Montaiguet, Pont de Rhaud, Quatre Termes, Rougadou, Reganas, Trévaresse, Sulauze, Sainte-Victoire, Zip de Fos.

“The level of forest fire risk is very severe in the department” for Sunday, justifies the prefecture, which notes a mistral “quite strong, with gusts up to 75 km/h in the afternoon and the following night.”

The prefecture points out that nine out of ten forest fires are of human origin, and that half of them are linked to carelessness.
