Anggun and André Manoukian form the new duo who comment on the semi-finals of Eurovision on Tuesday and Thursday evening on France 4. The singer was the “media guest” of franceinfo.
It’s a first: Anggun, who represented France at Eurovision in 2012, returns… But this time to comment on the two semi-finals of Eurovision 2023 with André Manoukian, who had already participated in the playoffs in previous years.
This new duo will comment on the Eurovision semi-finals on Tuesday May 9 and Thursday May 11 on France 4: 31 candidates, 10 of whom will be eliminated by the public, before the final on Saturday May 13. France is automatically qualified like the other four major contributing countries: the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Italy and the winning country, Ukraine.
“Hyper commercial things that will please and surprise”
And they left nothing to chance. Two voices, two styles: when Anggun has already watched the performances of each candidate and recorded his impressions in a small notebook, André Manoukian prefers to discover them live.
André Manoukian evokes the competition as a parade of musical haute couture: “The idea is to do hyper commercial things that will please as many people as possible, but which, at the same time, will surprise. And there, we find ourselves in: what is it to do a song? What’s it like to make a hit? And me, that’s what I like to watch“, he confides to Laurent Valière on franceinfo.
For the two commentators, the Zarra reaches a very high level: “She imposes, assures Anggun. Quite honestly, the Zarra has the voice, the charisma, the presence“. But the duo of animators warns: it will also be necessary with Loreen, the Swedish candidate already winner in 2012, and Käärij, the Finnish candidate.
