The very cold temperatures that have persisted for several days “test the ability of buildings to retain their heat, which increases the demand for heating,” according to a press release from Hydro-Québec.
The state-owned company predicts that electricity consumption over the next two days could reach an all-time high and reiterates that every gesture aimed at reducing its consumption is important.
In its press release, Hydro-Québec suggests, among other things, reducing heating by “one to two degrees Celsius, particularly in unoccupied rooms in the house” and “postponing or reducing the use of major household appliances, particularly the clothes dryer and dishwasher “.
Hydro-Québec recalls that all of its equipment will be in service and that all tools will be mobilized to meet demand in these cold temperatures.
