Two officers from the Montreal Police Service (SPVM) were injured Wednesday while trying to intercept a 20-year-old man driving a stolen vehicle. The suspect allegedly tried to flee, “putting the safety of citizens at risk.”
The event occurred in the evening, in Lachine, on Channel 1D Avenue, not far from Highway 20, according to SPVM spokesperson Mariane Allaire Morin. The police then tried to intercept the suspect, but he allegedly fled, making “dangerous maneuvers.”
In doing so, the patrol vehicle allegedly rammed the stolen vehicle in order to stem the threat to public safety. The police officers were ultimately able to arrest the suspect after a short foot chase.
According to the police force, its two officers were taken to hospital for upper body injuries that were not life-threatening. A security perimeter was set up and investigators were dispatched to the scene to shed light on the incident.
As both vehicles were heavily damaged, the SPVM called on citizens in the evening to avoid the area as much as possible.
