The Vegas Golden Knights beat the Dallas Stars 6-0 in Game 6 of the series and will face the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Finals.
William Karlsson scored twice for the Golden Knights. William Carrier, Keegan Kolesar, Jonathan Marchessault and Michael Amadio scored the other goals for the team. Adin Hill stopped 23 shots for the shutout. Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger also made 23 saves.
The Golden Knights started the game strong, getting the first four shots of the game in less than two minutes of play.
Carrier quickly made the Stars pay for their poor start, scoring on his team’s sixth shot, with 16:19 left in the first period. It was Carrier’s second goal of the playoffs.
A few minutes later, Oettinger made a nice mitt save against Shea Theodore, in a three-to-one overplay. Esa Lindell, however, was punished for delaying the game on the sequence, when the puck was about to enter the net on the rebound and the Stars defender cleared it in the stands.
The Golden Knights took advantage of the power play to double their lead with 9:35 left in the first period. Karlsson scored his ninth of the playoffs, with a shot near the slot that left the already compromised goaltender no chance.
With 6:00 remaining in the first period, Kolesar broke away from defensive cover and accepted Carrier’s pass to complete a quick play and make it 3-0 for the visitors.
The Stars got their first power play with 15:57 left in the second period, as Jack Eichel was called off for a high stick to the face of defenseman Ryan Suter. The Stars, however, could not close the gap.
Marchessault added a fourth goal for the Golden Knights midway through the second period, making it 4-0 by beating Oettinger with a shot between the pads. Ivan Barbashev had his ninth playoff assist.
Karlsson scored his second goal of the game just 2:06 into the third period. The Golden Knights forward fired an accurate shot into the top of the net and made it 5-0.
With 7:35 left in the game, Amadio scored a sixth goal for the Golden Knights. Karlsson collected another point on the game.
The Golden Knights and the Panthers will therefore face each other for the top honors. The Panthers had been waiting for the winners of this series for a few days, those who had swept the Carolina Hurricanes.
