(Vaudreuil-Dorion) A toddler who was left in an unattended car reportedly suffocated on Friday in Vaudreuil-Dorion, in Montérégie.
Posted yesterday at 11:41 p.m.
The emergency services were called around 4:15 p.m. concerning a young child found unresponsive in a vehicle located in a parking lot of a residence for the elderly on rue Querbes.
“Resuscitation maneuvers were attempted on the young child. He was transported to the hospital center where unfortunately his death was declared, ”said Sergeant of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) Stéphane Tremblay.
The child would have remained in the vehicle for an indefinite period of time before being discovered. For the moment, the SQ has not specified who made the discovery of the toddler in the car.
The SQ’s major crimes unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the child’s death. Mr. Tremblay specifies, however, that this does not necessarily mean that there is anything suspicious.
He explains that when the death of a child under the age of 6 occurs, the investigation into the causes and circumstances is automatically done with the major crimes department and there is also a coroner’s inquest.
The investigation is continuing to clarify what may have led to this tragedy.
