A spectacular police chase started overnight from Friday to Saturday to intercept a driver in his twenties forced the closure of Highway 20 in the Vaudreuil-Dorion sector. The driver was arrested and remains hospitalized for non-life threatening injuries.
The chase began around 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning when police officers from the MRC Vaudreuil-Soulanges Ouest attempted to intercept the vehicle on the highway due to a violation of the highway safety code.
The driver refused to stop on the order of the police and even overtook a vehicle on the right, on the shoulder, in order to flee.
In an attempt to force the car to a stop, officers rolled out a spiked mat and the suspect vehicle ran over it.
“Following that, he skidded, hit a lamppost and a Hydro-Quebec pole. He rolled over several times and drove into a building, ”explains the spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), Béatrice Dorsainville.
Despite everything, the young man had no intention of being intercepted by the agents. He got out of his vehicle and fled on foot.
At around 3:10 a.m., the police finally found him hiding under a stored boat and arrested him.
The man in his twenties, who was alone on board at the time, suffered major injuries, but there is no fear for his life, according to the SQ.
Police say the driver was arrested for flight, impaired driving, breach of conditions, dangerous driving, driving while prohibited and possession of burglary tools. He was transported to the hospital and blood samples were taken. He was released on a promise to appear and remained at the hospital.
Highway 20 is closed “for several hours” in both directions between Ranger Avenue and Route 338 in the Dorion area, Sergeant Dorsainville warned. The detour is via Chicoine Street, according to Québec511.
An SQ reconstructionist was dispatched to the scene to analyze the scene and the police investigation is continuing.
