Vast crackdown against the ultra-right in Alsace

A large-scale gendarmerie operation took place Tuesday morning in Alsace. More than 200 gendarmes were mobilized for a vast sweep in the circles of the ultra-right.

These were administrative visits authorized by the judge of freedoms of the Paris judicial court, in connection with the national anti-terrorist prosecutor’s office. They carried out simultaneously in several places in the departments of Haut-Rhin and Bas-Rhin.

Illegal acquisition and possession of weapons

The Haut-Rhin prefecture indicates that “these administrative visits” concerned “checks on the acquisition and illegal possession of weapons by individuals linked to the ultra-right movement“.

The groups of departmental companies of the Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin gendarmerie, the Strasbourg Research Section and the GIGN have been deployed. At noon, the operation was still in progress. It is not yet known if there have been any arrests.
