In total, 80 individuals, all men, were arrested in 53 departments in France and overseas. They are suspected of having shared hours of video or hundreds of child pornography images. More than 10,000 files were seized.
This is a crackdown of rare magnitude in the area of child crime. 80 men were arrested in 53 departments and in total, 10,500 files were seized. The Minister of the Interior welcomed this. “Great crackdown against child crime this week thanks to the exceptional mobilization of the police and gendarmes of the Minor Office. The investigations are still in progressurs”, wrote Gérald Darmanin on X. The operation lasted three days. Among those arrested, a teacher, an elected official and even a night supervisor.
Thirteen people imprisoned
The associations welcome this dragnet but place the emphasis on the victims. “These children have experienced rape, acts of torture and barbarity for the most part and therefore it amounts to a crime, the holders must be judged as criminals“, affirmed Martine Brousse, president of La Voix de l’enfance. Of the 80 men arrested, thirteen were imprisoned after a trial in immediate appearance while 37 of them were placed under judicial supervision.
