(Ottawa) Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will hold another teleconference with provincial and territorial premiers next week to discuss government efforts to reduce the health, economic and social consequences caused by the Omicron variant.
This is according to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office which summarizes the conversation Justin Trudeau had with the premier of British Columbia on Tuesday. Premier John Horgan is the chairman of the Council of the Federation.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) also reported that Justin Trudeau and John Horgan discussed the “Canada Health Transfer and agreed to continue discussions with all provincial and territorial governments to ensure Canadians are supported. by effective health systems. ”
COVID-19 cases have increased across the country as the easily transmitted Omicron variant forced classroom learning to be canceled and several health restrictions across the country returned.
The PMO said Justin Trudeau and John Horgan also discussed efforts to rebuild British Columbia after the historic floods in late November that forced thousands of people from their homes and destroyed highways.
The Sumas Prairie region, responsible for much of British Columbia’s agricultural production, has been particularly affected, with thousands of farm animals dying in the area in the floods.
