The Omicron variant forces the closure of a second elementary school in Montreal.
Struggling with an outbreak of the Omicron variant, Saint-Geneviève Sud school in LaSalle will be closed until December 24 inclusively.
In a letter sent to parents and relayed to The Press, Montreal’s regional public health department says that over the past week, “several staff and students” have tested positive for COVID-19, including the new variant.
“Rest assured that the management of your school is working closely with the Direction régionale de santé publique de Montréal in order to limit the transmission of the virus within the school establishment and to maintain the environment safe for all”, we read.
In order to stop the outbreak, all staff and students are asked to undergo a first preventive screening on December 16, and a second on December 22, 2021. “These two screenings are most important in the epidemiological context. current in the community, ”we point out.
On Tuesday evening, the Poppy School, also at the Marguerite-Bourgeoys School Service Center, said it would close until December 24 due to an outbreak of the omicron variant.
