Var and Alpes-Maritimes placed on orange alert for storms, train traffic interrupted between Marseille and Nice until Thursday midday

Storm alert. The Var and Alpes-Maritimes are placed on orange alert, Météo-France announced in its latest weather report, published on Thursday, August 15 at 6 a.m. This very stormy summer situation requires particular vigilance as there is a risk of hail and gusts of wind with heavy accumulations of precipitation.”warns the forecaster, who explains that heavy rain and storms have already hit the Var during the night.

In anticipation of these storms, the SNCF announced on X that train traffic would be interrupted between Marseille and Nice until 12 noon. It invites travelers “to postpone their trip and not to go to the station.”

These two departments are placed on orange alert until 4 p.m.: Météo-France expects in particular “a new storm surge coming from the sea in the late morning and midday” with heavy rain and strong gusts expected. The forecaster has also lifted the orange heatwave alert for the Alpes-Maritimes and Corsica.
