Vanilla’s “Fully Owned”, a small part of life condensed into emotions

After her beginnings scouring concert cafés and bars to sing, guitar slung over her shoulder, the French musician gained confidence thanks to her first album, “Amazona”. If she is proud of it, she had not yet succeeded in totally imposing his desire for purity both on the textures and the arrangements.

In “Fully Owned”, love is the narrative heart of this disc. Friendly, fraternal, maternal… Proud of her interbreeding inherited from a Guadeloupean grandmother, Vanille is also attached to her Corsican roots, from which she holds a very strong sense of the tribe. This can be heard in the warm texture of his songs.

From the opening of the album, she affirms his identity, refusing to shape himself according to others or society, which “Plus forte” confirms. With “All yours”, “My country” and “Someone”, she sings of the joys of being in love, and, with “Un amour indestructible”, the affection she has for her brother. But with “ On a loop”, she dresses the reproaches that we dwell on as a couple with the most poetic of slams.

Gravity also points here and there. While “Your Face” deciphers the feeling of no longer recognizing the one we love, “A Shadow” subtly denounces the pitfalls of domestic violence. It was inspired by the recent death of a friend at the hands of her husband.

And, on “Déraciné”, Vanille sings the homesickness of those who are far from home, the father of her baby being one of them. which is called Robinho Tavares, met in Brazil on the recording of the album “Amazona”. Together, in Gironde, they recorded all the models of “À Partinte”, from the rhythms to the keyboards through the bass lines. Without forgetting the guitar dear to Vanillehis heart instrument.
