Vancouver Canucks | Roberto Luongo will be added to the Ring of Honor next season

(Vancouver) Former Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo will have his name added to the team’s ring of honor next season.

Luongo wore the Canucks jersey for eight seasons, from 2006 to 2014, and set several team records while leading the Vancouver squad to a Stanley Cup Finals appearance in 2010-11.

A native of Montreal, Luongo leads the Canucks in wins (252) and shutouts (38). He also ranks first in save percentage (.919) and goals-against average (2.36) among team goalies who have played at least 100 games.

Now 43, Luongo played in the NHL for 20 years before announcing his retirement at the end of the 2018-19 season.

Luongo was selected fourth overall by the New York Islanders in the 1997 draft. He played his rookie season (1999-2000) with the team before being traded to the Florida Panthers, with whom he played from 2000 to 2005. He played the last five campaigns of his career with the Panthers.

Luongo also helped Canada win Olympic gold in 2010 and 2014.
