Vancouver Canucks | Goalkeeper Thatcher Demko injured in lower body

(Vancouver) Star goaltender Thatcher Demko will be sidelined week to week with a lower body injury, the Vancouver Canucks announced Tuesday.

The news comes days after he suddenly left his net on Saturday against the Winnipeg Jets.

Demko headed to the locker room during a commercial break in the second period.

Casey DeSmith took over in a 5-0 Canucks win.

Head coach Rick Tocchet did not offer details regarding Demko’s injury.

The British Columbia team recalled goalkeeper Arturs Silovs from its Abbotsford farm club on Tuesday.

Demko, 28, has a 2.47 ERA and five shutouts this season.

Leader of the league with 34 wins, he is one of the great architects of his team’s rise to the top of the West.

The Canucks will host the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday.
