(Vancouver) The Vancouver Canucks signed defenseman Filip Hronek to an eight-year contract worth $7.25 million annually on Tuesday.
Hronek, 26, was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of June.
The Canucks acquired the 6-foot, 190-pound guard from the Detroit Red Wings on April 1er March 2023 in return for a first-round pick and another second-round pick in last year’s draft.
Hronek set a new personal mark this season with 48 points, including two goals, in 81 games. He totaled 35 goals and 205 points in 390 career regular season games.
The Red Wings selected Hronek in the second round in 2016.
Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin said he hopes to see Hronek continue his development on and off the ice.
“Filip has integrated perfectly into our blue line, giving us stability and strength on the right side,” we read in a press release. His skating, defensive and offense-creating skills are exactly what you want from a top-notch defenseman. This season he showed us all his desire to compete and his desire to be a leader on this hockey team. »
