van driver charged with manslaughter

A week after the accident in Savignac-les-Ormeaux which killed six people, the driver of the van registered in Spain was put on trial.

No alcohol or drugs in the driver

This man, a 24-year-old Spaniard, was driving the van which hit a car containing a couple and their two children who had come on vacation from Deux-Sèvres. In this car, no family member had survived. According to the Foix public prosecutor’s office, the passengers had, a priori, all their seat belt fastened at the time of impact.

The results of the toxicological analyzes are now known. No trace of alcohol or narcotics detected in the driver of the van. Injured during the accident, he was released from hospital on Wednesday. At the end of his police custody on leaving the hospital, he was therefore indicted for manslaughter and placed under judicial control.

On board the van, two people of Spanish origin died. Four others, including the driver, were injured. The investigation, meanwhile, is continuing. Most of the injured could be heard, but the circumstances of the accident are not yet defined.
