Burns putt over 30 feet on the 16and pennant to beat Davis Riley on Sunday’s second overtime hole, earning him his third PGA Tour victory in his last 22 starts.

Burns, who finished with a card of 69 (minus-2), is the second player to manage to win two consecutive editions. Paul Casey pulled off the feat in 2018 and 2019. The 2020 edition of the tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The victory propelled Burns to 10and world level for the first time in his career, knocking Dustin Johnson out of the to-10 for the first time in seven years.

“Wow. This is crazy, Burns dropped. Davis played really well today, especially the way he finished the course. I tried to stay calm. I didn’t make many mistakes. Often on Sunday if you do what you have to do, hit several pars and a few birdies, often it works. I am so happy. »

Burns was crowned champion last year thanks to a three-stroke lead over his closest pursuer.

Riley, a rookie on the PGA Tour, managed to recover from a triple bogey on the fifth hole to end the day with a 72 (plus-1) card.

Both played par at 18and pennant in overtime.

Canadian Adam Hadwin entered the weekend ranked second, but cards of 70 and 72 respectively allowed him to finish the tournament in 272 shots (minus-12). He finished tied at 7and rank.

The other Canadians in the running, Adam Svensson and Nick Taylor, respectively took the 39and and 70and rung.

Justin Thomas (70) and Matthew NeSmith (71) each finished one shot behind the leaders. They both held the tournament lead in the final round on the course at Copperhead Golf Club.
