During a seminar I attended at Oxford University fifteen years ago, an Indian colleague told me of his wonder after watching the film CRAZYby filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallée and with actor Michel Côté.
The recent loss of these two giants of Quebec culture should not remain without a legacy.
Their success must guide our industrial policy for the future. We must significantly increase our investment in the cultural industry and have our distinct culture recognized around the world.
Quebecers should be proud of their culture when they leave the country, rather than being ashamed of being different, as is still too often the case.
We must, so to speak, “fitzgibbonize” our culture, that is to say make it, like the Koreans, a profitable industry, supported by a solid international influence, rather than confining it to a meager sprinkling of subsidies at the Balthazar chance.
