The mayoress of Montreal celebrated her victory and promised to attack without waiting for her second term on Monday morning, a few hours after being re-elected.
Valérie Plante affirmed that she had “no time to fool around”, especially on climate and environmental issues.
“Yesterday, the population chose, the population voted,” she said, flanked by fifteen elected officials from Projet Montreal. “It is a great and great responsibility to support Montrealers in the changes that are necessary. […] It is a great privilege to be chosen by the people. ”
“Montrealers have given us a huge mark of confidence,” she added, welcoming the large gap between her support and those granted to Denis Coderre. “My personal score is incredible. ”
Valérie Plante’s team organized its press conference at Habitations Jeanne-Mance, a large social housing complex in the heart of Montreal.
Mme Plante said she would start with her plan for the first 100 days of a second term. “We are going to adopt a balanced budget that will limit the increase in property taxes to 2%,” she said. The administration also wants to “double the number of households eligible for the home ownership program.”
The mayor did not want to come forward on any requests for a recount in certain districts.
“I cannot tell you now, but it is sure that we consider it, especially when we are talking about twenty votes [comme dans Outremont]. There could have been a mistake, ”she said. “To be clear about it, because it’s important. On either side, moreover, I imagine that on the other side, there could also be requests for a recount. ”
