“The Republican right is back”, she promises. The president of the Ile-de-France region, Valérie Pécresse, was nominated as the Republican presidential candidate on Saturday, December 4, by winning against Eric Ciotti in the second round of the congress organized online with members. The former Minister of Higher Education (2007-2011) and of the Budget (2011-2012), favorite with her liberal and firm line, won 60.95% of the vote, against 39.05% for the very right-wing MP for Alpes-Maritimes.

“Today, for the first time in its history, the party of General De Gaulle, Georges Pompidou, Jacques Chirac and Nicolas Sarkozy, our political family will have a candidate for the presidential election”, rejoiced Valérie Pécresse, in her victory speech. She said “thank you” to members “to have had this audacity” and wants to“to show worthy”.
Eric Ciotti a “congratulated Valérie Pécresse with sincerity” and underlined that she would have “the immense responsibility of leading our political family to victory”. Eric Ciotti wants “that we lead this fight together” with Valérie Pécresse.
The new Republican candidate will make her first trip in her new costume, Monday, alongside Eric Ciotti, on the latter’s land, in Saint-Martin-Vésubie (Alpes-Maritimes). However, faced with the fifth wave of Covid-19, the first major meeting planned by Les Républicains, initially scheduled for Saturday, December 11, Porte de Versailles in Paris, “will not be done in physics”, announced the president of the party, Christian Jacob.
