“Since the start of the campaign, I have been ‘suffering’, vain and sterile controversies after vain controversies”, regrets the head of the list of the presidential camp in the European elections, Valérie Hayer, Tuesday June 4 on France Inter. “The President of the Republic speaks, they say he should not speak. If he did not speak, we would criticize him for not speaking. The Prime Minister gets involved in the campaign, we consider that he is too implied”, she lists.
“Can we finally talk about the substance, the program, the issue, the risk of seeing the far right arrive in the European Parliament, which wants to unravel Europe ? That’s the real issue.” says the president of the Renew Europe group in Strasbourg and Brussels. She also points out the “lies from the extreme right of Jordan Bardella who, from one week to the next, from one year to the next, completely changes his program” And “lies to the French”.
This outburst from Valérie Hayer comes after Gabriel Attal burst onto the stage of the Radio France auditorium on Monday, while she was interviewed by franceinfo. An intervention which fueled opposition criticism of the involvement of the two heads of the executive in the MEP’s campaign, while her list is far behind in the polls by that of the National Rally (RN), led by Jordan Bardella.
This intervention, which deprived Valérie Hayer of precious minutes of her speaking time, was denounced from one end of the political spectrum to the other. Among the most virulent, the head of the Republican list, François-Xavier Bellamy. He rebelled against his “a little macho side”. Valérie Hayer responds to the conservative candidate. She judges “unbearable” his “lessons of feminism” and refers to his “positions on issues of women’s rights and on the issue of family law”.
“I am a woman at the top of the list. In 2019, we already had a woman, Nathalie Loiseau. Where are they, Raphaël Glucksmann’s number two [la tête de liste du Parti socialiste/Place publique] ? By Jordan Bardella? By François-Xavier Bellamy? Do they highlight them? No”, she snaps again. Valérie Hayer says to herself “very proud to be a woman and to have the support of the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic as well.” “Frankly, making these attacks on Gabriel Attal based on sexism and misogyny is outrageous”she assures.
