On the eve of Valentine’s Day, florists are preparing for the event of lovers. But this year, flower prices have gone up.
Every year, it’s the same tradition for a customer on Valentine’s Day. He comes to buy roses. But this year, the price of these flowers has increased: six euros the rod is one euro more than before. The client maintains: “It’s priceless, it’s Valentine’s Day”. The increase affects all flowers from abroad. According to a florist, this is due to “the price of energy which affects heating, greenhouse lighting and transport”.
Some varieties of imported flowers could thus be missing. So at the wholesale market in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhone)florists rush at the opening to have the best quality and choice. Others have chosen to turn to production french but they are still a minority on the market. In our bouquets, eight out of ten flowers are imported from abroad.
