Every February 14, Valentine’s Day is one of the busiest days of the year for florists. 200 million euros of flowers are bought in France on this occasion.

Every year on Valentine’s Day, it’s the same ritual for the customer of a florist located in Olivet (Loiret)he buys a bouquet of roses. The price of red roses has gone up, but that doesn’t deter customers from buying them. The bouquet costs 42 euros, seven euros more than last year. 80% flowers in the shop come from abroad. The trip has become more expensive due to rising fuel prices.

It’s the same observation for another florist based in Orleans (Loiret) which offers alternatives to produce a quality bouquet at a lower price. “What is not red is cheaper (…) we have to go for seasonal flowers like tulips where we need less energy to produce them”indicates Charline Pritscaloffflorist and best worker in France. Valentine’s Day isn’t the most important day of the year for florists, it’s Mother’s Day.
