The effort after the comfort. The day after a day of rest, failures are frequent, but leg failure is prohibited for the favorites on the tenth stage of the Giro 2024, joining Pompeii to Cusano Mutri on Tuesday May 14. A new chance of victory for Tadej Pogacar, comfortably dressed in pink with 2’40” ahead of his runner-up Daniel Felipe Martinez, and already winner three times during the first week of racing.

Starting at sea level to reach an altitude of nearly 1,400 meters, the peloton will climb the Camposauro (6.1 km at 7.5%) but above all a final ascent of almost 18 kilometers, at 5.6 % average slope, up to the hamlet of Bocca della Selva in the locality of Cusano Mutri. A grueling finish which could be fatal to certain contenders for the top 10. The French climbers dropped out of the general classification could try their luck again in the breakaway, starting with Romain Bardet and the brothers Aurélien and Valentin Paret-Peintre.

Note that three sprinters will not start again: Olav Kooij (Visma-LAB), Ethan Vernon (Israel-Premier Tech) and Max Kanter (Astana) left the Giro route due to illness on Tuesday morning.
