The accident happened around 9:30 a.m. when the young skier was injured during her ascent in a T-bar type ski lift.
The victim was transported to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries during the evening, said a spokeswoman for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The ski resort had posted a message on social networks on Sunday to indicate that an accident had taken place on the mountain.
Early Monday morning, the president and general manager of the ski resort, François Gagnon, declared that “the big family of Val Saint-Côme is deeply saddened by a tragic accident which occurred during the day on Sunday in the mountains. […] It goes without saying that our thoughts are with family and friends,” he wrote in a statement, noting that support measures have been made available to team members.
Investigators from the SQ and the forensic identification service were dispatched to the scene to shed light on the circumstances surrounding this tragedy.
