Health Canada sowed concern on Tuesday night in a tweet about months of waiting for approval of the COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11.
It was a mistake, according to his spokesperson Eric Morrissette who said he was “sorry for the confusion that this may have caused”. The tweet has since been withdrawn and the ministry intends to correct the situation.
At a press conference on Friday, Health Canada’s chief medical adviser, Supriya Sharma, said it would still be necessary to wait “a few weeks” before the approval of the request submitted on October 18 by Pfizer-BioNTech.
“I don’t see a decision before the middle or the end of November, at the earliest,” she said. It depends on the data and coming and going [pour les valider]. ”
The Quebec government is already preparing to vaccinate children aged 5 to 11 by Christmas even though the vaccine has not yet been approved in Canada.
